There are more than 100 types of pufferfish, or blowfish, most of which live in salt water. They vary in size from 2 inches up to several feet in length. Their paralysing & deadly tetrodotoxin is produced by bacteria and actually kills a number diners each year. Pufferfish have amazing eye-sight and can swim away quickly, although with poor directional control. If all else fails they can gulp in a large amount of water and do what they do best! This makes them appear much larger and more difficult to swallow. Predators that manage to eat a pufferfish may yet succumb to the deadly toxin found throughout its body.
